Men's Mental Health: From Mental Illness to Mental Health Advocate with Johnny Crowder

In this episode of the Patros Podcast, Man Up CEO Jeff Ford and co-host Allan Pereira sit down with mental health advocate and Cope Notes founder Johnny Crowder to kick off the Men’s Mental Health Series.

Johnny shares his powerful story of growing up with severe mental illness, finding healing through faith and therapy, and transforming his struggles into a mission to help others. From studying psychology to working in behavioral health and being in a metal band, Johnny has used every part of his journey to create real change—most notably through Cope Notes, a text-based mental health platform that sends daily support to young adults and adults across the globe.

He also opens up about how science continues to affirm God’s design for mental wellness, and why his life mission is simple: "I want to make stuff that helps people feel better."

What You’ll Learn:

  • Why mental health recovery is a daily process, not a one-time breakthrough

  • How hard experiences can shape a purposeful life

  • The value of faith and psychology working together in healing

  • Why it’s often easier to pour into others than yourself

  • How to start building internal health, even when your world feels broken
